MY DAD IS DUMBER THAN ME

After a stressful day, I decided to relax in the front yard of my father's house. It was already getting late and so I was privileged to enjoy the cool evening breeze and no scorching sun as it was sunset already. In the course of my relaxation, I was entertained by the high traffic in front of the compound as a variety of activities ensued. Moving vehicles with different sorts of honks, chats and laughter, loud music playing across the street, greetings and various salutations, and so on, you can picture what a Lagos city could look like late in the day.

While these numerous events occurred concurrently, I noticed a couple walk by my house and they provoked a thought in my head. The thought was not some naughty deeds exhibited by my dad to make me tag him dumb, because my Dad is one of the most intelligent people I've met in this world. The thought provoked in my mind was the cycle of nature and how things have evolved in time past. The evolution of mankind for the few generations I've witnessed got me thinking and made me pick up my pen.

The couple that walked past me were pretty short and I thought of  how average their height must have been in the early days of their marriage and how perfect they must have looked. I immediately assumed that their wards must be taller than them, because that is a trend I've noticed in my family. My Dad is taller than his dad and I am taller than him, and I equally expect my kids to be taller than me. This means that the average height of this generation will some how be tagged short in some years to come. Well, their height is not actually my concern but the evolution of mankind.

From my observation, the current generation outsmarts their predecessors in intelligence despite being under the tutelage of their predecessors.  It is quite evident that we all have to put our parents through a number of techy appliances which we were never privileged to have attended a class for. I am equally sure that my parents did something similar to my grandparents despite their wealth of experience. This trend is possible to be in existence into perpetuity so my kids will probably teach me how to operate the innovations of nanotechnology.

This evolution is not just limited to height or intelligence but also to beauty and aesthetics, creativity, norms and ethics, fashion, etiquettes and behavior, technology and a number of other things. This therefore means that someway somehow, the future generations will in their own little way, outpace our very best innovative merchandise. Therefore validating the fact that preceding generations are dumber than their successors.

You should by now agree with me that your parents are dumber than you and the cycle won't end there as you'll certainly be dumber than your very own children. Our case might though be worse than our parents' as their generation is more diligent than ours. They paid more attention to hard work than we will ever do. So you're enjoined to act fast to avoid an impending danger

Thank you!

NIGERIA AT 57; AM I INSPIRED?

I feel privileged to be in a society where thought provoking write ups are made by my contemporaries. Early this morning, some top notch fellows of my noble department had Nigeria's current state as a matter of discuss. I agree to a number of the facts they asserted, but I feel disturbed on some others as I viewed them from an entirely different perspective.
Truly, we need to be appreciative for a rare opportunity as this to enjoy some privileges. Electricity from PHCN is way cheaper and even better than the strongest Mikano Generators as well as a number of other things the government provides. We cannot but agree that no one, in his own capacity, can proudly execute most of the functions of the current government in the country. Asides that, the country has been blessed with a number of physical, natural and even human resources.
See me not as a pessimist, but as an objective fellow, because I also share the notion of a better Nigeria at least for the sake of the future generations. The country is though worthy of being extolled, but on a second thought, the country is a mere disappointment to our noble fathers who fought whole heartedly for our freedom. The likes of Awolowo, Azikiwe, Balewa and a number of our freedom fighters will be sad at what we've made their sweats turn into.
Truly, a number of us have got admissions and scholarships on merit, but that doesn't still mean we should give commendations for these, because these are some of the many norms that we shouldn't beg for. Imagine we see electricity and so many other necessaries which are rights as privileges in this country. Does that sound like what we should be thankful for after a Jubilee celebration?
Permit me to say this, I refuse to accept mediocrity for no sort of justification. Virtually all the sectors in the country has failed right from the most important even to the most insignificant. How can we be proud of a system that encourages failure or why will the Educational legislators permit a cut off mark of 25% (100/400) to enter an already deplored institution of learning.

Our educational systems are not even currently fit to compete in the 21st century with the current level of learning what then would will expect of it in the next decade? Imagine, the very best of our institutions struggling to be among top 20 in the black continent not to talk of the whole world whom we are all competing with. How then will our economy fare if education, the most important supply side factor is at a deplorable state? Are we going to ever experience development in the future years at all?
Our infrastructure in this country has also been experiencing a rather snail-like development for many years now. Imagine, a country with enviable resources still having issues with mere transportation and communication having been rich for most part of her years of Independence. Imagine the annual degradation of the country's economy despite being the population hub of the black continent.

I could continue to highlight disappointing issues about my dear country, but it will only make me sad the more as little or no efforts are being put in place to set things on track. Frankly, the government cannot do all to make the country better because the efforts of the citizenry is integral to achieve a significant change in the country. We're all guilty of the bad situations in the country, and if we don't turn a new leaf we might end up not enjoying what God has ordained for us by being Nigerians.
However, despite the woes in the country, I'm still proud to be a Nigerian as I am not only a rare specie of the human race but also a wonderful one at that.
I hope for a better Nigeria

IT IS EASIER SAID THAN DONE

What a world we live in. The saying ‘it is easier said than done’ is a very true saying. I can remember vividly how happy and joyous I was while my dad was still alive and also hale and hearty. I then felt everything was okay because there was peace and there were no signs of mornings in the family. This peace then inspired me while on a computer to write a post on my blog about those that were depressed due to one negative occurrence or the other which was titled  "MOTIVATION: JUST GET UP AND WIN”. During that post I highlighted some common negative occurrences that brought grave dejection and depression to the soul of people and these includes.

Death of a Loved One
Examination Failure
Career Failure

I have though experienced the second one (EXAMINATION FAILURE) at a point in my life, but I found it so easy to get over just because I was quite young and I learnt my mistakes so fast and also made my weaknesses my strengths.

Let me say fortunately for me I was privileged to have an experience of the first one (DEATH OF A LOVED ONE) because the good Lord doesn’t bring misfortune to his loved ones. It was my dad that passed on to glory. His demise happened just like a wind that blew pass. It happened just within few minutes with no departing sign. He breathed his last on his bed around 10:30pm (Nigerian Time) but efforts were made to revive him because we all found it so hard to believe that he can just pass on like that, but fortunately for us all, all our efforts were futile because God knows best and he has purposely taken him home for a reason that is unknown to us all.

Days after his demise I came across this post "MOTIVATION: JUST GET UP AND WIN" that I wrote exactly a week before his glorious exit. I went through this post again and smiled saying “IT IS EASIER SAID THAN DONE”. I remembered how happy I was while writing the post and compared it to how sad and depressed I am currently. I smiled once again and said even with more affirmation that ‘it is easier done than said’. Then, all sorts of thoughts and speeches of consolation that I had received during the period of his demise started running through my mind. I was happy as well as sad. I was happy because I had a very great assurance that he lived a glorious life and that we will surely meet at the master’s feet to part no more, but I was as well sad because he has created a great vacuum in my heart and also that he never lived long enough to eat the fruit of his labour. It was then that I reasoned with a popular Yoruba saying “e ni kan lo mo” (Meaning-It is only does that are directly affected that knows the weight of a loss) I then nodded again
saying in a confirmatory voice “IT IS EASIER SAID THAN DONE”.

Tribute To My Loving Dad

Oh! What a rare gem I lost.
Dad, you left sooner than I ever expected, it was too sudden and shocking. The life you lived taught me more than enough lessons, for me to live a successful life like you did. You lived a very simple and straightforward life, you humbled yourself to extent that you sought my advice on critical issues, though I being immature and inexperienced. You loved, cared and even trusted me, to the extent of trusting me with your life even at a critical stage.
Hmmm Engr 'Sola Doks... My great Consultant, your legacies of Punctuality and War against Procrastination will ever remain dear in my heart. Dear dad, your sudden departure means a sudden glory and so, I  hope that by the special grace of God we will meet at the Bosom of our Lord to part no more

MY EVER LOVING DAD
Words cannot describe,
Nor tears inscribe,
How difficult it is for me to bear,
The loss of a gem so great and dear.

Your teachings were sound and firm,
Your legacies second to none,
Your prestigious integrity,
Defined your ever rare dignity.

A great preacher you were,
A teacher with frowns and care,
You will ever remain dear in my heart,
Until we meet no more to part.

My Dad, My Brother, My Friend, My Boss, My Teacher, My Mentor,My Business Associate, My Very Good Friend....Rest In The Bossom of The Lord. I love you and will always do.

Motivation | You've Got to Win

Where there is life there is hope. So why then do we human beings get
so depressed and weary when a normal occurrence that happens to be a
negative one happens to us?
We all don't want anything bad to befall us but without this bad and
negative things life can't be complete. Okay imagine this scenario
where our fore fathers don't die. Imagine how much we will be? Imagine
our uncomfortable this world will be so why do we make unnecessary
prolonged lamentations when a beloved one dies? Why do we decide to
put on sack cloths for a long time? When we are meant to just go on
with our lives and enjoy the remaining part to its fullest.

This same thing happens to students that do fail exams. When you fail
as a student you don't need to put that to mind and start thinking
that you have gotten to the end of the road. No its not so. Our elders
do say that there is no new thing in this world. Moreover, the great
leaders and prominent people of our days and that of our fathers' once
failed so why do we then think that failure is terminable. Failure
should be seen a very good thing cause it make you to know your
mistakes and also gives you the grace to amend your mistakes and come
out very bright.

Failure does not only exist among students, it exists among all works
of life it even exist in carriers and this tends to have a more
detrimental effect on people than that of the exam failure. If you
tend to fail in your carrier path you can always learn from that
mistake that you made that led to your failure and come out brighter
when such a thing reoccurs, moreover, an adage says that "experience
is the best teacher". So why not take that lesson you got the hard way
and make it count in your life instead of sobbing and thinking about
it and you know that too much thinking get you depressed brings than
emotional strength.
So why not tie up your lace,

Wipe your face,
Get back to the race,
And get back to your rightful place.

For you are born to win and reign. So go out there, take the
challenge, get back on your feet and go and WIN because you are born
to do so.

My Little Experience Blogging

I started blogging sometime ago and found out that it was fun. My blogging was inspired mainly by a co-blogger +Prince Akinyemi Mujeeb who is a very close friend of mine and other people. At my early stages in blogging then, all I wanted was to make money and was therefore advised to come and try making my money online cause ''it is the easiest and most convenient way of making money in this jet age'' they said. I then decided to start my blogging on a fateful day after a lot of procrastination.

My first experience on blogging was kind of awkward cause everything on the blogger looked so strange and weird that it got to an extent when I almost lost interest and was about leaving but my sub-conscious mind drew me back and my coming back to blogging was based soley because of the news I heard about people that are okay financially all in the name of blogging. After a while, I realised that this world is not always about making money and money alone although making money too is important.

I then started finding blogging kind of easy cause it was fun to me and was even forgetting my money making motive I had from the onset. It was later on that I realised that you can be making money while making fun which was told to me by my advisers and which was true. The first problem I had was mainly setting up my blog it was kinda rigorous cause I found so difficult in setting it up. After a while I got it right thereafter my blogging started.

Choosing a niche then started giving me problem cause I had a lot of things in my head that I wanted to share with the world like business ideas, sport, football to be specific, motivational, great and inspiring quotes and so many other things but I was told that blogging would require the blogger choosing a specific niche to venture in. I finally took the bull by the horn and then chose the sport niche with the belief and mind set that I had a lot on my head to post about it compared to other niche.

Here am I today doing fine on the blogging world. I therefore urge everyone who has either just been introduced or just discovered blogging to keep up with it cause has as time goes on you would really enjoy it.

Cheers,
Oluwatosin
